Final Project.

Final Project.

For the final project we were tasked with putting all the knowledge we learned throughout the term to the test creating a Story Map and Presentation in order to properly analyze and display factors related to the Construction of a Transmission line in the State of Florida.

Below is an overview of the project as well as a link the my completed Story map and a video of my presentation.

Bobwhite-Manatee Project

Analysis of determining factors for the ideal and acceptable placement of the Mantatee – Sarasota County Transmission Line.

Story Map

Overview of the Project.

Defining the Problem

The initial problem for the Bobwhite-Manatee project was to find a feasible and acceptable

route for a transmission line crossing the Manatee – Sarasota County boundary. For this

project, we are interested in analyzing specific factors originally considered in locating the

transmission line.

Our objectives are to define:

 Homes within proximity of the transmission line

 Schools within proximity of the transmission line

 Imposition of the transmission line on: communities, land owners or parcels, and

environmentally sensitive lands.

 Length of the transmission line (related to engineering/cost).

Excerpts from my Story map and associated Deliverables.

Objective 1:

Imposition of the Transmission Line on: Environmentally Sensitive Lands and Wetland Areas.

The impact of the proposed corridor on the environment can be assessed by mapping the location of protected environmentally sensitive lands identified within the state database as well as known wetland areas located within the project study area in order to determine how the corridor would directly and indirectly impact those environments.

Objective 2:

Homes and Parcels within proximity of the transmission line.

The impact of the proposed corridor on private residences can be assessed by identifying and mapping the location of homes within the preferred corridor as well as by identifying individual parcels of land located within the project study area that intersect the corridor. Once mapped the impact of the project can be analyzed.

Objective 3:

Schools within proximity of the transmission line.

The impact of the proposed corridor on Public Schools can be assessed by identifying and geocoding the location of Schools within the study area to determine the number of schools located within the corridor or surrounding buffer zone. Once identified and mapped the impact of the project can be analyzed.

Objective 4:

Objective 4: Length of transmission line and calculated cost.

Calculating the length of the preferred corridor can be done using the "Polygon to Centerline" geospatial tool in order to find the Center line of the corridor. Once found the length of the centerline can be determined.
