Land Use / Land Cover Classification

Image
Module 2a Lab: Land Use / Land Cover Classification Module 2b Lab: Ground Truthing and Accuracy Assessment For this assignment we were tasked to creating polygon feature classes and classifying features within an areal photograph. For this lesson i created over 150 individual polygons and constructed a land usage map as seen below. I then assessed the maps accuracy by cross referencing 30 random points on the map with google earth street view.    Student Learning Outcomes: Module 2a ▪ Apply recognition elements to Land Use Land Cover (LULC) classification ▪ Identify various features using aerial photography ▪ Construct a land use / land cover map Module 2b ▪ Develop a sampling plan for ground truthing ▪ Conduct accuracy assessment and calculate % accuracy The following table is a break down of land usage codes and why i chose them.

Visual Interpretation Lab

Module 1 Lab: Visual Interpretation This was the first lab for my Photo Identification and Remote Sensing Class. For this assignment i was tasked with creating several feature layers in order to identify objects within Aerial Photographs based on unique  factors.  Student Learning Outcomes: ▪ Interpret the tone and texture of aerial photographs. ▪ Identify land features in an aerial photograph based on several visual attributes. ▪ Compare similar land features in true color and false color infrared (IR) photographs Exercise 1: Marked objects with polygons based on Tone and Texture. Uniform areas were identified by tone (very light, light, medium, dark, very dark) and Areas with Identifiable Texture were identified by Texture (very fine, fine, mottled, coarse, very coarse). Exercise 2:  I chose easily identifiable objects based on shapes such as a square roof and a round pool. For shadow-based objects I identified recognizable shadows from objects including trees a...

Final Project.

Final Project. For the final project we were tasked with putting all the knowledge we learned throughout the term to the test creating a Story Map and Presentation in order to properly analyze and display factors related to the Construction of a Transmission line in the State of Florida. Below is an overview of the project as well as a link the my completed Story map and a video of my presentation.  Bobwhite-Manatee Project Analysis of determining factors for the ideal and acceptable placement of the Mantatee – Sarasota County Transmission Line. Story Map Overview of the Project. Defining the Problem The initial problem for the Bobwhite-Manatee project was to find a feasible and acceptable route for a transmission line crossing the Manatee – Sarasota County boundary. For this project, we are interested in analyzing specific factors originally considered in locating the transmission line.  Our objectives are to define:  Homes within proximity of the transmission line  Schools...

Georeferencing / Editing Lab

Image
Georeferencing / Editing Lab Tasks ▪ Georeference images of UWF Campus ▪ Add new polygon and line features with editing ▪ Hyperlink a photo ▪ Perform a multiple ring buffer ▪ Create a 3D Scene For this weeks lab assignment we were tasked with georeferencing three images of the UWF Campus to create a composite map of the campus as seen below. Additionally we were tasked with adding and creating new polygon and line features of the campus building and road systems. Additionally we were tasked with locating an eagles nest near the campus and creating a multiple ring buffer to denote where a conservation easement will be located as the campus is expanded.  Student Learning Outcomes: ▪ Georeference an unknown raster image of the campus to known vector data (i.e. buildings & roads) ▪ Interpret Residual and Root Mean Square errors ▪ Digitize new building and road features ▪ Practice polynomial transformations ▪ Create hyperlinks in ArcGIS to data stored on a personal drive ▪ Cre...
